MIlton Friedman RIP

I just heard on the news that economist Milton Friedman has passed away. He is one of the people who is responsible for my love of economics and freedom.

RE you I ...

I just started working part time at my local REI. They have medical benefits for part timers (I am paying a boat load of money every month with 4 of us ) + great discounts for employees. In case you do not know who REI is, they are the largest outdoor retailer (and member owned CO OP) in the nation. I did a brief stint in 1995 with them, so I am familiar with them. It is fun helping customers again (sort of a sickness of mine).
In running shoes, we carry just trail running shoes and some clothing. Of course the outdoor clothing crosses over very well. I always tried to teach people that all of this "technical" wear is basically the same. Sure there are some sport specific features (mostly on jackets) but the base layers are essentially the same. Just because it says Patagonia or Mountain Hardware, does not mean you can't run in it. Just because it says Brooks or Mizuno doesn't mean you can't ski in it! You would be surprised when someone would be at Runners' Feet looking at running "thermals", I would mention you can ski or hike in them, the look of surprise that they can be used for anything but running. The stuff is expensive, so you might as well use it for as many things as possible!
